Market Expansion Manager

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer (COO)

The Footy League is a fast-growing, community-driven recreational soccer organization headquartered in New York City with active markets across the U.S. Our mission is to create inclusive, fun, and socially vibrant soccer communities through high-quality leagues, pickups, and local events. As we scale into multiple cities, we’re looking for a dynamic Market Expansion Manager to own the growth of our expansion markets and build a national footprint of thriving Footy communities.

Role Overview

The Market Expansion Manager will be responsible for driving league launches, growth, and sustained success across multiple expansion markets simultaneously. This role directly manages local market hosts and market leads, while also rolling up their sleeves to execute hands-on work in each market from field procurement, player and host recruitment, and content operations to equipment logistics, budgeting, and cost analysis.

Using our Go-To-Market (GTM) playbook, the Market Expansion Manager will ensure each market hits its launch benchmarks and continues to grow. They will also provide critical feedback and strategic recommendations to improve or adjust the GTM strategy based on real-time data, local market conditions, and on-the-ground insights.

This is a high-ownership, high-visibility role that requires someone who is operationally strong, community-minded, detail-oriented, and energized by building new markets from scratch.

Key Responsibilities

Market Growth & League Launches

  • Own the end-to-end growth and launch of leagues in multiple expansion markets.

  • Drive registrations and ensure each market hits GTM benchmarks and deadlines.

  • Convert existing pickups (Westchester, Dallas) into full league launches.

  • Oversee growth of currently active expansion markets (Miami, New Jersey, Tampa).

Market Operations & Execution

  • Lead hands-on operational tasks for each market, including:

    • Field procurement and establish long-term field relationship building.

    • Recruitment efforts across social media platforms and other digital channels.

    • Content updates, community communication, and brand alignment.

    • Equipment sourcing, inventory management, and distribution.

    • Budget management, cost tracking, and unit economics analysis.

  • Travel regularly to expansion markets for launches, events, and operational support.

Host & Market Lead Management

  • Recruit, onboard, train, and manage a network of market hosts and market leads.

  • Create processes, resources, and training materials enabling hosts to take on recruitment, outreach, and on-the-ground community development.

  • Act as the point of accountability for all expansion market team members.

Strategic Planning & GTM Optimization

  • Implement and manage Footy’s Go-To-Market playbook across all markets.

  • Analyze performance in each market and provide insights or adjustments to the GTM strategy when needed—locally or holistically.

  • Collaborate with the COO and leadership team to refine long-term market expansion strategies.

Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with Marketing, CX, Ref Ops, Field Ops, and League Ops to ensure smooth and coordinated launches.

  • Share growth signals, risks, blockers, and success stories across the organization.

Qualifications

Required

  • 3–6+ years of experience in market expansion, operations, community-building, or similar roles.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple markets or projects simultaneously.

  • You will manage the team to ensure deadlines and targets are consistently met.

  • Strong project management skills with an eye for detail and operational efficiency.

  • Experience recruiting, training, or managing teams.

  • Comfortable executing both strategic planning and hands-on operational tasks.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Data-driven mindset; able to interpret trends, identify bottlenecks, and make recommendations.

  • Ability to travel regularly to new or growing markets.

  • Knowledge of recreational sports leagues or event-based operations.

Preferred

  • Experience in startup environments or fast-scaling organizations.

  • Background in community engagement, brand building, or grassroots outreach.

  • Familiarity with digital recruitment channels (Meta Ads, TikTok, Instagram, Reddit, Craigslist, etc.).

  • Familiarity with community groups

  • Spanish speaking

  • Multiple new markets launched into stable and growing recreational leagues.

  • Pickup groups in Westchester, Dallas, and future markets successfully converted into league ecosystems.

  • Local host networks become reliable, self-sufficient contributors to market growth.

  • GTM timelines and benchmarks met consistently with strong registration numbers.

  • Clear, actionable learnings shared with leadership to continuously improve expansion strategy.

  • Expansion markets demonstrating positive growth signals, strong community culture, and improving unit economics.
