Field Operations Manager

As we scale into new cities, the quality of our game-day experience is everything — and that starts on the ground. We're looking for a detail-oriented, operationally-driven Field Operations Manager to own the systems, logistics, and people that make every match run smoothly.

Role Summary

The Field Operations Manager is responsible for the execution, reliability, communication workflows, and continuous improvement of all field-based operations across existing and expansion markets.

This role owns the physical delivery of the game-day product, including goals, equipment, jerseys, champion gear, field layouts, and logistical coordination while ensuring referees and league operations teams have the operational information and tools required to run matches safely and consistently.

This role works closely with the Warehouse Operations Manager to ensure seamless coordination between inventory management, jersey and equipment storage, packaging, assignment, and final delivery to players, referees, and field locations. Clear collaboration between warehouse and field operations is essential to ensure accurate, timely, and efficient execution of league operations

The manager will be responsible to organize and maintain the storage and accessibility of useful information related to the efficiency of the department, the current status of departmental responsibilities and execution of tasks for departmental use and to be shared across departments. 

The Field Operations Manager drives departmental and staff efficiency by improving delivery systems, optimizing infrastructure placement, strengthening communication workflows, and building scalable processes that support league growth and expansion markets.

This role leads through a layered execution model, overseeing a Field Operations Coordinator who manages daily logistics and FOA execution, while the Manager ensures accountability, efficiency, and continuous improvement across the department.

Core Responsibilities

I. Field Execution & Delivery Logistics

  • Oversee weekly field logistics planning

  • Ensure efficient and reliable delivery and transport of the following across all leagues and locations:

    • Goals

    • Balls

    • Field equipment

    • Jerseys

    • Champion gear

  • Optimize routing and delivery efficiency

  • Reduce redundant transport through improved staging and infrastructure

  • Ensure consistent field setup and breakdown standards

  • Oversee tournament field setup and breakdown execution

  • Identify and eliminate recurring logistical inefficiencies

II. Referee & On-Site Communication Workflows

  • Ensure referees receive all necessary operational information, including:

    • Lock combinations

    • Field layouts and dimensions

    • Equipment access instructions

    • Setup and breakdown protocols

  • Design and maintain structured communication systems for each facility

  • Coordinate operational information updates during weather disruptions

  • Serve as the primary operational liaison to referees for logistical needs

  • Serve as primary liaison between facility managers and referees/staff (e.g. when a field gate is locked, double-booked, etc.)

Game-time cancellation decisions remain with referees.

The Field Operations Manager ensures referees have accurate and timely operational information to make safe, informed decisions.

III. Infrastructure Strategy & Cost Efficiency

  • Identify and implement strategies to reduce delivery costs through:

    • Goal-sharing partnerships with other organizations

    • Securing permission for permanent equipment placement

    • Strategic equipment purchases

  • Work with field owners and institutions to secure infrastructure approvals (e.g. goal donations on-site).

  • Improve routing efficiency and reduce repetitive manual transport

  • Develop scalable infrastructure models for expansion markets

IV. Field Monitoring & Facility Coordination

  • Monitor field conditions and surface quality trends

  • Serve as operational contact for field repair and maintenance coordination

  • Communicate recurring facility issues to Director and League Operations

  • Support structured post-weather field assessments

  • Document safety risks and recurring facility challenges

V. Staff Leadership & Operational Oversight

The Field Operations Manager directly supervises Field Operations Coordinators and is responsible for overall performance, accountability, and efficiency across all field operations.

The Field Operations Coordinator retains ownership of day-to-day execution, including delivery logistics, FOA scheduling, and on-the-ground operational workflows. The Manager establishes standards, monitors performance, and ensures efficiency improvements are implemented. The Field Operations Manager may execute Coordinator-level responsibilities when operationally necessary, while maintaining accountability for delegation and team development.

Responsibilities include:

  • Direct supervision and development of the Field Operations Coordinator

  • Oversight of FOA staffing structures and productivity

  • Supporting the Coordinator in FOA hiring, onboarding, and training

  • Establishing clear performance expectations and standards

  • Monitoring staffing reliability and operational efficiency

  • Identifying inefficiencies and implementing structural improvements

  • Escalating systemic operational risks to the Director when necessary

VI. League Operations Coordination

  • Partner with League Operations on:

    • Schedule and launch alignment

    • Field/facility operational needs and instructions

    • Capacity planning

    • Special event logistics

  • Ensure operational feasibility of league schedules

  • Communicate infrastructure limitations that impact scheduling

  • Provide operational input and field scouting reports for new league launches

  • Support expansion markets with field operations planning and modeling

VII. Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop and maintain a regular reporting cadence for field operations

    • Prepare monthly staffing reports

    • Present quarterly and annual departmental efficiency reports to leadership

    • Reporting departmental advances and setbacks to leadership regularly as they occur

    • Conduct and present quarterly reviews with Field Ops Coordinator 

  • Store and track metrics for reporting on:

    • Staffing reliability and needs

    • Delivery efficiency

    • Equipment loss/damage

    • Field condition issues

    • Infrastructure cost reductions

    • Departmental efficiency improvements

  • Identify trends and propose corrective action plans

  • Drive measurable efficiency improvements over time

  • Build and maintain field operations SOP documentation

What This Role Is Not

  • Not responsible for referee performance or assigning

  • Not responsible for warehouse inventory accounting systems

  • Not final authority on league-wide weather cancellations

  • Not a purely administrative scheduling role

This role is accountable for the operational systems, logistics, and communication infrastructure that enable safe, efficient, and scalable game-day execution.
